“In Perpetuo” by Federico Barassi Premieres in Italian Theaters

Federico Barassi’s documentary In Perpetuo, produced by Dinamo Film in collaboration with Rai Cinema, arrives in Italian cinemas this spring. The first public screening will be held on May 16th at 9:40 PM at Cinema CityLife Anteo in Milan, with a second screening on June 6th at 7:00 PM at Cinema Farnese in Rome. The director will be present for both events.

Selected by prestigious international festivals such as the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival and the Festival dei Popoli in Florence, In Perpetuo is a poetic and visually powerful journey along the Gargano coastline, between the trabucchi of Peschici and Vieste in Apulia. These ancient fishing machines serve as silent witnesses to a profound relationship between humanity, nature, and time. The documentary intimately portrays the daily lives of the last remaining trabucchisti and their heirs.

The documentary was made with the support of Regione Puglia, Fondazione Apulia Film Commission, and Agenzia Regionale del Turismo Pugliapromozione, as part of the 2014/2020 ERDF Operational Program of Puglia – Axis VI, Action 6.8 – “Interventions for the Competitive Repositioning of Tourist Destinations”, under the initiative “Promuovere il Cinema 2023”.

“The custodians of this knowledge,” explains the director, “do not merely pass on a craft — they embody a deep connection with nature and history. Fishing with the trabucco cannot be learned from books; it is acquired by watching, listening, and living. This documentary was born out of a need to preserve a memory at risk of being lost. I thank the trabucchisti for allowing me to tell their stories and for welcoming me into their world — a world as quiet as it is full of meaning.”
