In Perpetuo by Federico Barassi at the St. Louis International Film Festival

In Perpetuo by Federico Barassi lands in the United States, where it will be presented on Friday, 14 November, at the St. Louis International Film Festival, at Webster Hall’s / Winifred Moore Auditorium, as part of the Environmental Focus, J. Kim Tucci Memorial Italian Focus, and Leon & Mary Strauss Documentary Spotlight sections.

The film, which has already been selected by major international festivals such as the CinemAmbiente Festival in Turin, the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival and the Festival dei Popoli in Florence, is a poetic and visually powerful journey along the Gargano coast, among the trabucchi of Peschici and Vieste. In Perpetuo depicts a microcosm suspended between sea and land, in which these ancient fishing tools become silent witnesses to a profound relationship between man, nature and time, focusing on the daily lives of the last trabucco masters and their heirs.

Produced by Dinamo Film with Rai Cinema, the documentary film was made with the support of the Puglia Region, the Apulia Film Commission Foundation and the Pugliapromozione Regional Tourism Agency, using resources from the Puglia PO FESR 2014/2020, Axis VI, Action 6.8, Interventions for the competitive repositioning of tourist destinations, as part of the intervention plan “Promoting Cinema 2023”.

“The guardians of this knowledge,” explains the director, “do not simply recount a trade, but embody a deep connection with nature and history. Due to its complexity, fishing with the trabucco cannot be learned from books: it is learned by observing, listening and experiencing. This documentary stems from the need to preserve a memory that risks being lost. I thank the trabucco fishermen for giving me the opportunity to tell their story, enveloping me in their world, which is as silent as it is meaningful.”
