The Spiral by Paolo Strippoli: Road to Oscar 2027
Paolo Strippoli’s new film has been selected to represent Italy in the Oscars race. Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, it launched its international festival tour, taking second place for the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Yesterday, the film was chosen from among 21 contenders by a committee of journalists, producers, distributors, and industry professionals—established by ANICA (National Association of Audiovisual and Digital Cinematographic Industries) on behalf of the Academy—with the following rationale: ‘It is a fresh, genre film by a young director who has recently started his journey and has been appreciated by both national and international audiences and critics.’ The shortlist announcement is scheduled for December 15, 2026, and the nominations for January 21, 2027, with the Oscar ceremony set to take place in Los Angeles on March 14, 2027.
Produced by Propaganda Italia with Rai Cinema in association with Dinamo Film, and co-produced with Kazak Productions and Tarantula, the film is distributed by 01 Distribution and will be in Italian theaters starting October 8th.
